Introducing the 12 Days of Jolabokaflod: A Bookish Holiday Celebration Begins!
There’s something magical about December—the twinkle lights, the cozy evenings, and the gentle hush that seems to invite us to slow down and open a good book. This year, I’m thrilled to bring that magic straight into your home or classroom with the launch of The 12 Days of Jolabokaflod, a reading celebration inspired by Iceland’s beloved tradition of gifting books and spending the holidays curled up with a story.
Our official Jolabokaflod countdown begins on December 13th, but the fun starts even earlier—because the first book reveal drops on December 6th, giving you plenty of time to grab a copy from your local library or book shop!
Why Jolabokaflod?
The Icelandic spirit of Jolabokaflod is simple: give books, share stories, and enjoy slow, cozy time together. It’s a beautiful tradition—and one that pairs perfectly with the season of kindness, warmth, and wonder. The 12 Days of Jolabokaflod adds a playful twist, giving children something to look forward to each day while celebrating the power of reading.
How It Works
Each day from December 13th through December 24th, a new book from my curated collection will be revealed (unless you’re using my downloadable/printable resource from The Shop—which includes everything ready for you at once!). Along with every book post, there is included a simple, meaningful project/activity suggestion that brings the story to life and helps kids experience reading in an unforgettable way.
Think of it as a daily story surprise—part tradition, part celebration, and part creative adventure.
What to Expect
The Book Reveals
Starting on December 6th, I’ll be announcing the book list so that you can have time to get your books from the library or local book shop. Then start ing on Dec. 13th. Each reveal will include a short summary, why it was chosen, and tips for sharing the story with children of varying ages.
Story-Inspired Projects Suggestions
The blog posts will include the book suggestion and a curated project suggestion—thoughtful, creative, and designed to connect kids more deeply with the reading experience. In the downloadable version, you’ll find:
